Interstate Drug Investigation Leads to Major Narcotics Seizure and Arrests of Two Florida Men
SEYMOUR, Ind., July 30, 2026 — A multistate investigation that began with a suspected drug exchange in California led authorities to seize 42 kilograms of cocaine and arrest two Florida men allegedly connected to an interstate narcotics-trafficking operation.
Detectives opened the investigation several months ago after observing what appeared to be a narcotics handoff in Ontario, California. Evidence obtained during the investigation, along with statements later provided by a truck driver, indicated that commercial vehicles were allegedly being used to transport cocaine, marijuana, other illicit drugs and large amounts of cash across the country.
Investigators used the Flock automated license-plate-reader system to trace the route of a tractor-trailer from California through several states. Indiana State Police were alerted Thursday that a vehicle connected to the suspected operation had entered Indiana.
At approximately 3:13 p.m., troopers encountered the tractor-trailer during a Level I Department of Transportation inspection at a commercial weigh station along Interstate 65 near Seymour. Authorities said the driver’s behavior and inconsistencies identified during the inspection raised suspicions.
The driver, identified as a 45-year-old Hallandale Beach, Florida, resident, told investigators he was traveling from California to Ohio. A bill of lading in his possession listed Fontana, California, as the shipment’s point of origin and Canton, Ohio, as its scheduled delivery destination. Authorities said he consented to a search of the truck’s cab and trailer.
Cocaine Hidden Within Sleeper Berth
During the search, detectives allegedly discovered vacuum-sealed packages containing approximately 42 kilograms of cocaine inside the sleeper berth. Investigators also recovered $26,874 in vacuum-sealed cash believed to be connected to narcotics trafficking.
The driver was arrested and taken to jail while authorities continued investigating his suspected role in transporting or storing narcotics. The tractor and trailer were impounded pending further examination.
Information reportedly provided by the driver led investigators to the vehicle’s registered owner, a 41-year-old resident of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. Detectives allege that the owner coordinated cocaine shipments and managed proceeds generated through the organization’s drug sales.
Authorities initially detained the owner at a South Florida airport in connection with an unrelated offense. He was later taken into custody on charges stemming from the trafficking investigation and now faces conspiracy and multiple drug-, weapons- and money-related charges.
Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The investigation involved Indiana State Police, the Seymour Police Department, the Jackson County Mobile Command and Communications Support Team, narcotics detectives and law-enforcement agencies in other jurisdictions.
A spokesperson for the Seymour Police Department said cooperation between agencies is essential when confronting organized trafficking networks.

“Illegal drug trafficking and the possession of dangerous weapons continue to pose a serious threat to the safety of our residents,” the spokesperson said. “We will continue working with our law-enforcement partners to dismantle operations that place our communities at risk.”
Authorities have obtained additional search warrants, and investigators indicated that more arrests could follow. The investigation remains active.
